2007-11-26 오전 11:40:41   316   Reinforcement in external publicity for IP rights The Korean Intellectual Property Office (Commissioner: Sang-Woo Jun) issues an English newsletter publicizing the performance of our government on the development of intellectual property rights and to promote foreigners’ understanding about domestic administration and systems in intellectual property rights. The English newsletter is named 『The Korea IP News Quarterly』. It reports news related to Korean intellectual property rights as a quarterly publication. The publication introduces KIPO activities such as patent, utility model, and trademark, as well as activities of ministries related to the Korea Customs Service, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Culture & Tourism, and Ministry of Agriculture & Forestry. It covers fields such as copyright, protection and execution in intellectual property rights, and others including food, medical supplies, and agriculture & forestry. The diverse newsletter contents may be useful references for foreign readers who have interest in domestic intellectual property rights, such as the latest news related to policy, system, and statute for our country’s intellectual property rights, internally and externally patent applications, cases of examination and of solving a dispute, international cooperation with major countries and international organizations, activities of protecting and executing intellectual property rights, and news of opening an international event such as seminars and symposia. It records opinions and suggestions about internal and external administrations and systems for intellectual property rights. A fixed column section is written by public officials for government ministries and by experts for intellectual property rights. The newsletter welcomes participation by foreign readers in a new corner of inquiry and proposals for administration and systems of domestic intellectual property rights. The first edition articles addressed several activities and performances in the government-wide dimension. Contents included the following articles of interest:  the government delegation plan to attend the 43rd WIPO general meeting,  revisions to the patent law that were enforced in July 2007,  enforcement of the patent examination highway with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO),  agreement to exchange priority evidence with the European Patent Office (EPO),  opening the exhibition of comparing counterfeit products and of UCC competition by the Korea Customs Service,  actual results of control over intellectual property rights during the first half of this year,  amendments to the copyright law, and countermeasure of eradicating illegal contents, and announcement of publication by the commissioner of KIPO. The Korea IP News Quarterly is widely distributed to USPTO, EPO, patent offices of major countries such as Japan, China, and Australia, to international organizations such as bureaus for WIPO and APEC, to foreign embassies in South Korea, to foreign chambers of commerce and industry in South Korea, to official residences in overseas, and to internal and external institutions related to intellectual property rights such as the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency and Korea International Trade Association. KIPO will proceed with additional efforts to strengthen publicity in the government-wide dimension through issuing the English newsletter in a positive bid to manage international arguments related to the emerging importance of intellectual property rights and to elevate our stature.
